How to END Burnout

Video Version of this blog

Ok so, originally when I wrote this script I was actually experiencing a productivity high. I was uploading on Tik tok and Youtube shorts daily and making more art than I ever and then…

burnout baby!

Yeah, I was in a highly productive state but I was also treating myself like an art bot pushing out new art pieces daily while also not making any improvement on my art or on my major social media platforms (except on YT thank goodness) In addition to that outside life factors were also just killing me as they do for a lot of people.

Introduction

So! here are my 5 tips on how to stop being a sad little art bot and become a real person again!

Absorb New Media or Go Back to Media That Inspired You

Whenever I feel like I’m in a creative slump something that helps me especially is watching something that inspired me to create in the first place like Ghibli movies or trying a new series. When I watched Arcane for the first time it felt like having a creative energy drink.

Go Outside

Listen to me when I say that we can't just spend our lives in our hobbit holes! We need to leave the art basement and explore the outside a little bit. While I was writing this script I went outside and wrote at a rainy park and it made me feel so much better as soon as I got that fresh air. The American Psychological Association (APA) says that “Spending time in nature is linked to both cognitive benefits and improvements in mood, mental health and emotional well-being.”

Do Non-art Related Hobbies

If you've only been making art and literally nothing else it's time to break out your other hobbies! like video games, or sports. Doing the same thing all the time makes the brain very sad which kind of leads me to my next point-

Get Out of your Comfort Zone

So this can come in many forms from experimenting with your art styles or medium to like getting different groceries than normal. If you don't go out normally it's the perfect time to try that. Do something anything that you don't normally do!

Control your work-life balance

It's easy to get lost in your work, especially when you're passionate about it. However, it's important to maintain a healthy work-life balance to prevent burnout and maintain your mental health. Set boundaries for yourself, such as creating a schedule and sticking to it, taking breaks throughout the day, and setting aside time for the fun stuff. Also, Pomodoro timers save lives. Remember, your work is a part of your life, but it shouldn't consume your entire life. Practice self-care alongside your work.

Conclusion

Remember that you are human. Being a well-rounded artist requires taking care of all aspects of your life. Do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and take care of yourself. This will give you a fresh perspective and renewed energy when you return to your art.
