Workstations vs. Desktop Computers for Animators

Workstations vs. Desktop Computers                          Written by Alisa Campbell             Photo by Firosnv. Photography on Unsplash  In 2023, many animators are grappling with the choice between desktop and workstation computers. The burning questions are: Are workstations as reliable as they used to be? Is the gap between the two still significant? And what exactly sets desktops apart from workstation computers?      Traditionally, workstation computers were powerful machines that sat on someone's desk, rather than in a data center. They typically ran operating systems like Unix or VMS, allowing for multitasking (Farquhar, D., April 26, 2018). These bulky machines didn't have as many memory slots or drive bays as servers but shared similar chips. On the other hand, desktops are personal computing devices designed to fit on an office de...

Are We Moving Away from 3D Realism?

Image
Are We Moving Away from 3D Realism?                       Written by Alisa Campbell      So, 3d modeling has come a very long way since its infancy. Making leaps and bounds towards photorealistic realism but more recently also a replication of older styles of animation like how Into the Spider-Verse intends to replicate a hand-drawn comic style or how The Willoughbys replicates stop motion animation . which brings us to today's topic.      Have we gotten to a point where our 3-D animation technology is so good that we are no longer pursuing photo-realism but now technically regressing to modernize older methods of animation to find a different angle to explore the other breadth of 3-D? Now the answer here is both yes and no (at least from my perspective). Although 3d shows and movies are trying to become more stylized through their replication of older media lik...

A Small Dive into the Popularity of the MS Flight Simulator Games

Image
A Small Dive into the Popularity of the MS Flight Simulator Games        W ritten by Alisa Campbell         Photo from MS Flight Simulators Steam Page Back in November 1982, Microsoft dropped Flight Simulator 1.0 (FLIGHT-SIMMER) on us. It's a game series where two certified flight instructors take you through the ropes of becoming a pilot, just like in real life . They teach you flight skills, how to master Flight Simulator, and even how to use it as a tool to get your pilot's license (West, J. V., May 19, 1982). But let's be real, Flight Simulator never really took off in terms of popularity. If you check out Google Trends, you'll see it never gets higher than a measly 2 out of 100 when compared to universally loved games like the almighty Pac-Man. Ouch! So, what does Microsoft need to do to get their game back in the spotlight? Well, they gotta spice things up, make it more exciting, crank up ...

How to END Burnout

Image
Video Version of this blog Ok so, originally when I wrote this script I was actually experiencing a productivity high. I was uploading on Tik tok and Youtube shorts daily and making more art than I ever and then… burnout baby! Yeah, I was in a highly productive state but I was also treating myself like an art bot pushing out new art pieces daily while also not making any improvement on my art or on my major social media platforms (except on YT thank goodness) In addition to that outside life factors were also just killing me as they do for a lot of people. Introduction So! here are my 5 tips on how to stop being a sad little art bot and become a real person again! Absorb New Media or Go Back to Media That Inspired You Whenever I feel like I’m in a creative slump something that helps me especially is watching something that inspired me to create in the first place like Ghibli movies or trying a new series. When I watched Arcane for the first time it felt like having a creati...

Great Green Wall

Great Green Wall  by Alisa Campbell Photo by Thomas Park on Unsplash   I was so excited when my family moved into our first house,  but not for the spacious rooms, my own bed, or even the new school that I was dreading to start in the middle of the 5th grade.   We were going to live next to a baseball stadium.   It was Decrepit, extremely old and full of wonder.  It stood like the mountains surrounding it. It felt safe. Almost like a guardian   I used to walk around the long walls of the stadium waiting to pick up my little sister from the bus stop.  Crushing of leaves beneath my feet and fall winds pushing me forward I'd listen to the seas of people screaming at the spectacle of baseball   and although I loathed sports I always try to find the lowest points of the wall, pull up a block of cement, and wobble up to the points of my feet to watch.  It was always just out of sight for me.  Still, I loved to walk its wal...

The Difference Between Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign

Image
Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign are all popular software used by designers and artists. Each program has its own unique set of features that make them the most suitable for different types of projects.     Adobe Photoshop is a powerful program that is widely used for editing photography . it also has a wide range of special effects and filters that can be applied to images to create unique visual effects. Photoshop is also often used for user interface design as well as web and motion design. (Many artists also use photoshop for illustration purposes)      Adobe Illustrator is a vector-based program that is commonly used for creating website elements, logos, and large-format materials.  Since the program uses vector graphics whenever the image is resized it never pixelates or loses its quality.     Adobe InDesign is a layout/design program that is primarily used for creating print materials . It has a wide ra...

Side Hustle or Sad Hustle? : Low content books

Image
To start off with no, your not going to make any money with low-content books. Very few ever did and very few ever will but I'm definitely getting ahead of myself let me explain.    If you don't already know  Low-content books, as the name suggests, are books with minimal text or content. These may include notebooks, planners, journals, or other books with blank or repeating pages. They are often used for writing, drawing, or other creative content.  And from first glance making them looks really easy! Just design a cute book cover and boom your wallet will be full of sweet low effort cash! However, due to market saturation, the current idea is that it is nearly impossible to make money using low-content books but a lot of people (YouTubers especially) think that this is still a viable method but spoiler alert! No, they don't. For  YEARS now low content books have been promoted to artists, especially as a side hustl...
