Are We Moving Away from 3D Realism?
So, 3d modeling has come a very long way since its infancy. Making leaps and bounds towards photorealistic realism but more recently also a replication of older styles of animation like how Into the Spider-Verse intends to replicate a hand-drawn comic style or how The Willoughbys replicates stop motion animation. which brings us to today's topic.
Have we gotten to a point where our 3-D animation technology is so good that we are no longer pursuing photo-realism but now technically regressing to modernize older methods of animation to find a different angle to explore the other breadth of 3-D?
Now the answer here is both yes and no (at least from my perspective). Although 3d shows and movies are trying to become more stylized through their replication of older media like stop motion and 2d animation the push for 3d photo-realism is still massive even with our increased technology. For example, Shudu Gram is a South African supermodel but as you’ve already guessed the term “supermodel” has two meanings here. She’s completely fake made by Cameron-James Wilson and she's not the only one. Recently there has been an uproar of “virtual influencers” on all media platforms (like Instagram) that are taking over our feeds.
Even KFC has one and that's… interesting.
This means that despite realism's lack in animation it'll never truly be gone.
